A free Essex County collection day for residents to safely dispose of household chemicals, automotive fluids, oil-based paint, and other hazardous materials.
No registration needed. Just show up.
Essex County residents can bring accepted household hazardous materials to the county Public Works Facility for safe disposal. Accepted items include oil-based paints and stains, automotive fluids, propane tanks, pool chemicals, fluorescent bulbs, mercury-containing products, gasoline, household cleaning fluids, and car batteries.
Latex paint, unlabeled materials, asbestos, medical waste, explosives, household batteries, smoke detectors, and commercial or industrial waste are not accepted. Proof of Essex County residency is required.
Participants must remain in their vehicles, place items in the trunk, and understand that containers will not be returned.
This is a vehicle-based drop-off event, and participants are instructed to remain in their vehicles while staff remove items from the trunk.
